Have you been curious to explore how microdosing may be a holistic route to take as it relates to getting off your medications?
Our go-to Microdosing Mentor, Tiffany Hurd shared how she started microdosing six years ago with the curiosity in taking a holistic alternative route to getting off antidepressant medications [adderall & lexapro] after being prescribed for over five years.
We’re going to share with you her personal process for a protocol that worked for her unique needs and through learning about her experience, ways how this might also be a supportive process for you.
Please keep an open mind that this was Tiffany’s personal experience and this approach may not be best for you, or perhaps it will!

This is a sensitive topic within the psychedelic space as there’s not one way to go about microdosing to taper off your medication; there are many factors that go into this journey and it’s very individualized!
Let’s dive in! Here are the 7-steps Tiffany took:
Step 1: SHE GOT HONEST WITH HERSELF, TOOK RESPONSIBILITY AND DECIDED.
She looked at the common threads taking place and addressed the truth. Anxiety, depression, overwhelm, not understanding how to handle stress, unprocessed trauma, an unfulfilled career – were a handful of reasons that contributed to her being prescribed.
These symptoms were directly connected to multiple sets of beliefs and out-dated patterns that were running her life.
After taking the time to get very clear on why she was prescribed medication, this allowed her to create a supportive place of action + the decision to try on something new.
Step 2: SHE CONSULTED WITH MY PRESCRIBING PHYSICIAN.
Naturally, Tiffany feared what life would be like without the ‘support’ of a medication that she once believed was helping her. However, she always had this knowing that she was not supposed to be medicated.
Whoever is prescribing your medication gets to be 100% involved in supporting you in slowly tapering off, safely and effectively, while also being in the knowing that you will be microdosing. Honesty and transparency are key here. You’ll be surprised with how many physicians will support microdosing!
Step 3: SHE INFORMED HERSELF ON MICRODOSING & EMOTIONALLY RESOURCED HERSELF.
Tiffany educated herself on microdosing and created a protocol through trial & error that worked for her. When she started this process 6 years ago, there wasn’t nearly the amount of data, research, and education out there. Today, we now have mentors to guide you, physicians who see the value in psychedelics, and a ton of valuable information. Tiffany created a methodology to also guide you through this process – more to share on how you can learn more below!
Additionally – resourcing yourself with nervous system regulation modalities and trauma-informed practices were 100% necessary.Medications baseline your emotions, microdosing gets you into your emotional body. You will need these resources.
Step 4: SHE WAS PATIENT, CONSISTENT & DEDICATED.
She didn’t rush this process. Tiffany entered this journey with trust, curiosity, support, informed knowledge and disciplined commitment.
Tapering off SSRI’s can change the chemistry of your brain and when it’s not done safely, this can be more harmful. It’s gradual and shouldn’t be rushed. Give your mind-body the space and time necessary to recalibrate back to its natural baseline. While also being mindful of a new substance entering and how you may react / respond to it.
Step 5: TIFFANY CREATED A SPECIFIC PROTOCOL DESIGNED FOR HER OWN UNIQUE NEEDS.
There is no one-size fits all approach as it relates to a protocol for microdosing and tapering off medications.
A lot goes into this and depends on (just to name a few):
> the type of medication you’re taking
> the mg dosage
> how long you’ve been taking it & how often
> your lifestyle habits / daily practices
> your diagnosis
> ensuring there are no contraindications with your medications and mushrooms
> how you respond to psilocybin
> your patience & dedication
> what support you’re receiving
> supplement intake
Step 6: SHE DEEPENED BY DAILY SELF RITUALS & PRACTICES.
Tiffany started to get in touch with her emotions in new ways through microdosing, and this opened up new layers of processing.
Without daily practices and resources, I wouldn’t have effectively processed some of the most valuable areas that needed my presence for healing, forgiving, understanding and accepting.
These practices brought her back home to her body in new ways. From this foundational and essential ingredient – her life became more peaceful, clear and enjoyable.
Step 7: SHE SAT WITH A HIGH DOSE AMOUNT OF MEDICINE.
After two months of microdosing and slowly tapering off SSRI’s, Tiffany sat in a ceremony with a much higher amount of medicine. This allowed her to go deeper into her processing and to release the specifics that were contributing to being on medications.
At this time, she was down to a very low dosage of the remaining of her SSRI’s. For her personal process, this ceremony was the completion of her medication journey. She has not been on medication since.
